The team lead and centre director, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, while explaining the operations and activities of NOUN as an ODL institution driven by technology, said the university is guided by the principles of flexibility, affordability and cost - effectiveness.
He stated that NOUN is a federal university poised to bring higher education closer to the doorsteps of every Nigerian, particularly those who seek knowledge.
He added that ODL removed barriers to age, gender, and social status, among others. Emphasising on NOUN’s slogan, 'Learn at your place, at your pace,' the director said , the slogan depicts the flexibility and accessibility of what NOUN stands for.
‘You can study at the comfort of your home, and in case you are transferred as paramilitary personnel to a new station, you only need a letter from your former centre to a new one to continue your studies,’ he said.
‘There are no issues of strikes, unionism, or the quota system, among others, in NOUN, and you are good to go within the duration of your programme’, Onyia stated.
On the issue of tuition fees increasing at NOUN, Onyia was emphatic that school fees at NOUN still remained the cheapest compared with other universities in Nigeria.
He therefore appealed to the staff of FRSC to embrace the opportunity NOUN offers to upgrade themselves academically, even as time waits for no one.
At the event, the principal assistant registrar (PAR) of the centre, Mr. Matthew Egede, took the audience through the requirements, processes, and procedures for securing admission into the university.
In his response, the acting zonal commanding officer, Enugu, Salami Kolawole, expressed satisfaction with the advocacy visit and pledged commitment to encouraging his staff to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the university to enrol at the centre.
